HS: Winter SIMA FAB 50 rankings, Jan. 27
The girls soccer team at Vista Ridge (Cedar Park, Texas) found out this week that a tie could be a rankings victory.
Here's how it happened:
A week earlier, SIMA FAB 50-ranked Vista Ridge played perennial state title contender Highland Park (Dallas, Texas) to a tie in a battle of undefeated teams. Last week, Highland Park defeated SIMA FAB 50 No. 13 Ursuline Academy (Dallas, Texas). The latter result meant undefeated Highland Park needed to vault in front of Ursuline Academy. Given Vista Ridge's result with Highland Park, the lone blemish on an otherwise perfect record, required Vista Ridge to jump from No. 40 to No. 11 this week.
Vista Ridge's move was the most significant advancement among the ranked teams in this week's SIMA FAB 50 boys and girls rankings.
Another big mover on the girls side was La Costa Canyon (Carlsbad, Calif.), which moved from No. 18 to No. 6 following a win over previous No. 1 Cathedral Catholic (San Diego, Calif.). At No. 6, La Costa Canyon has played itself into the national title chase.
On the boys side, four of the top six teams are undefeated squads from Texas. Overall, Texas accounts for six of the top eight teams. The week's big mover is El Toro (Lake Forest, Calif.), which moved from No. 36 to No. 24 after a win over San Clemente (San Clemente, Calif.).
